Proctor & Gamble: working towards sustainability
Sustainable Marketing is becoming increasingly important. More and more companies are realizing the importance of predicting and preserving so future generations can generate what is needed to meet their needs. The only way to do this is by adopting a sustainable marketing concept.
As you can see from above, the only way to meet the future needs of consumers, as well as the future needs of the business, is through a sustainable marketing concept.
Perhaps the most impactful action being taken to promote sustainable marketing is environmental sustainability. This means the company earns profits while contributing to a more environmentally sustainable planet. In order to do this, five factors must be considered: product stewardship, pollution prevention, design for environment (DFE), new clean technologies, and sustainability vision. There are many examples of companies that are practicing environmental sustainability, however, Procter & Gamble, which we discussed in class, is the one I will be discussing. After the chapter lecture on sustainable marketing, we browsed the P&G site. I was excited to see that the company has an entire site section dedicated to their sustainable efforts.
Proctor & Gamble has been working to reduce their waste, increase their use of sustainable and renewable materials, and conserve resources (Proctor & Gamble, 2014). To conserve resources, P&G uses less water, energy, and materials. In order to reduce the amount of waste, they have an extensive recycle and reuse program. In addition, Proctor & Gamble keeps a running list under the sustainability tab of their environmentally and socially sustainable goals, along with the progress towards those goals, in order to engage their consumers and encourage sustainable business practices. The sustainability vision, as shown on the company website is shown below.
