Personal Growth Assessment
Over the course of the semester, I have learned quite a bit about marketing. This knowledge is something I will be able to take with me and apply to my future business endeavors. Many of the things I learned, were completely new concepts, however, a few of them I was familiar with and learned more about. Of these concepts, there were a couple that stuck with me more than the others, and some of the assignments were more effective than others.
First, I learned that marketing is not simply advertising. I knew this prior to taking Business 306, however, I did not know the extent. In addition, I learned about the marketing mix and the different types of selling. This was my favorite topic to learn about this semester and the one I found myself most able to apply to real-life situations. Lastly, the topic of choosing a target market and implementing the proper strategies to that market, is one I was familiar with, but really enjoyed learning about. The group practicum was the most effective learning method for me this semester. I learned so much from working on that one presentation with my group. Unfortunately, I do not feel as though I learned as much from watching everyone else's practicums as I did by creating my own.
Going forward, I will be able to apply these business practices in so many ways. Keeping on the subject of my favorite topics, I will be able to apply these to my own business that I hope to one day own. Every business/product has a target market. Knowing how to identify that segment or segments, and implement the proper strategy to provide consumers with the best value, will be something that my business will be built on. In addition, creating the perfect marketing mix is something that will need to be done. By having experience creating one for our product, Swipe-A-Load, I will know how to get started doing this.
In addition to learning key marketing concepts, I also learned about how to write a marketing plan, techniques for presentations, and how to handle different situations while working in a group. I was very happy with the group I worked with this semester and not only learned from the group project as a whole, but also from each of my team members. These skills will be important in the coming semesters when I begin working on my Capstone. Overall, this was a great class. Unlike many classes, I feel as though I gained knowledge that is relevant and the class was taught thoroughly and with the interest of us, the students, in mind.
